Andrew Acosta

Andrew with SDSU Global Campus Dean Ian Gibson

Over the next couple of years, we’ll be following a group of our convocation students from the start of their academic journeys with SDSU Global Campus through graduation and completion of their programs.

Today, we introduce you to Andrew Acosta, who is determined to continue his academic journey after earning his Associate’s Degree. Now enrolled in the Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration program, Andrew is setting his sights on finishing his degree and pursuing an MBA. Balancing his role in the public sector with his studies, he shares how he plans to tackle challenges and make the most of the opportunities SDSU Global Campus offers.

What motivated you to go back to college, and why was now the time you chose to resume your academic journey?

Upon graduating high school, I was enrolled part-time in community college. As I approached the finish line for obtaining my Associate’s Degree, I decided I wanted to continue my education in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.

What are your academic and career goals, and how do you hope this program will help you achieve them?

My academic goals are to complete my bachelor’s in Business Administration with SDSU Global Campus and pursue my MBA upon graduating. My career goals are to apply my education to my current administrative role in the public sector and to strive for promotional opportunities.

What are you most looking forward to?

I look forward to learning and engaging in my classes online. I recently attended the New Student Convocation at the beginning of the semester, and it was a great way to tie Global Campus students into the SDSU experience. I am excited to continue the next two years and look forward to more opportunities to participate in person with SDSU Global Campus and Fowler College of Business.

What challenges do you think you’ll face?

Juggling responsibilities for school and work will be challenging. I can best manage these priorities through time management and organizational skills. By doing so, I can establish a schedule for work and school.

What types of support or resources do you think will be most beneficial for you throughout the program?

The SDSU Online Library and Writing Center will provide me with the support and resources I believe will be most beneficial throughout the program. I can easily access school resources off-campus by having these available online and in person.

What kind of interactions and collaborations are you hoping to have with your peers?

I plan to interact and collaborate with my peers through class groups online. By doing so, I can meet and learn more about other students enrolled in the same online program.

How do you see your program impacting your long-term personal and professional goals?

The program will impact my long-term personal goals. The online format is the best way for me to achieve my bachelor’s, fulfilling a goal of mine since high school. The program will also impact my professional goals, as I can continue working while completing my studies.

What do you hope to be doing immediately after completing your program?

After completing the programs and graduating in person at SDSU, I plan to continue my education and pursue my Master’s of Business Administration. The online bachelor’s program with SDSU Global Campus is beneficial as I can work towards and earn the same degree students earn in person.

You’re juggling many roles (parent, spouse, boss, employee, etc.); what’s your plan to juggle it all?

I plan to establish a manageable schedule for work and school to ensure I succeed in both roles.
