With 43% of our online Master of Public Health students identifying as Hispanic/Latino and 60% residing within 100 miles of San Diego County, our MPH program reflects and serves the local community’s needs and demographics.

PH 649 Border and Global Public Health Surveillance
Our Border and Global Public Health Surveillance course provides an in-depth view into the intricate field of monitoring and responding to health threats across international borders. The curriculum includes an examination of data sources crucial for surveillance, such as hospital system syndromic data. Students learn methodologies for ensuring data quality control, conducting rigorous data analysis, and effectively alerting and communicating critical information.

Our Master of Public Health is fully online and designed for early-career professionals in healthcare and related fields. This program emphasizes the intricate dynamics of health science and public policy, with a specific focus on understanding group behaviors and addressing health-related issues in diverse communities.
Students will get to learn from SDSU’s expert instructors, many of whom come from a variety of professional settings such as the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), HMOs, hospitals, managed care agencies, military services, and other academic institutions.
Additionally, students will get hands-on experience through supervised field experience with a public health organization in their own community. Students based in San Diego or surrounding Southern California border areas benefit from the School of Public Health’s collaborative binational research and service projects. These initiatives aim to improve public health conditions and enhance healthcare services on both sides of the border.
