From studying with flexibility online in your home country, to spending a semester in sunny San Diego, students in the SDSU Global Campus Global Flex programs get the best of both worlds. 

SDSU Global Campus offers the Global Flex program, which allows international students to study conveniently online in their home country while being taught by renowned SDSU faculty for a semester. Then have the opportunity to attend the San Diego State University campus to complete the remainder of the degree in person. The program is available to students looking to pursue a Master’s of Science in Computer Engineering or a Master’s in Big Data Analytics.

Meet Yuvjeeth Sreenivas. He had always dreamed of studying abroad in the United States, and as a Global Flex Student, he’s getting to enjoy new opportunities and experiences of studying here in sunny San Diego. He was inspired to earn his Master of Science in Computer Engineering to expand his opportunities in his field to become specialized in niche domains.

We connected with Sreenivas to hear about his experiences with SDSU Global Campus and follow him along his journey in his time in-person at SDSU. 

1. What initially drew you to the Global Flex Program at SDSU?

Since high school, I always had a dream of studying in the U.S. I was looking for an opportunity where I could get a Master’s degree in a STEM program, which was also in line with my career timelines and financial constraints. SDSU’s Global Flex Program offers an accelerated approach where I could get a degree in three semesters, which fell in line perfectly for me.

2. How would you describe your experience studying online through Global Flex while in your home country?

I’d say it’s probably the best online study experience I’ve had. I’ve taken quite a few courses from other educational platforms, but the online semester of Global Flex allows communication with peers as well as the instructors in a way that closely equals classroom experience. Having access to the instructor to clarify course-related queries as if I were offline was game-changing.

3. Why did you choose a program that allowed you to begin your studies online before studying in person?

I was working in the industry when I decided to pursue higher education. If I had to go the usual Master’s route, I’d have to resign from work about 3 months earlier. Since the first semester of the Global Flex program was online, I could work and study in parallel, which also let me step out of the industry as per the plans I had.

4. What are you most excited about during your time studying in San Diego?

America has always been the land where all dreams come true, and San Diego is ‘America’s Finest City’. For me, it’s the sunshine, the positive attitude that I see in people around me, Aztec games, and the culture, really. Endless possibilities to work hard and play hard.

5. What has been your favorite experience studying abroad in San Diego so far?

I consider myself an ambivert, and getting back to a classroom environment where I don’t know anyone is a little nerve-racking for me. Getting to know people and making friends was so fun! I made a team for my project on Day 1 of the class, which has a mix of students from around the world. I guess my best experience would be meeting people from different countries and backgrounds and working together on something common.

6. How do you plan to use your master’s degree and international experience in your future career?

The knowledge from the master’s degree can help me land better work opportunities or help me proceed further in academia. Being an international student helps me unlock better opportunities as compared to studying in my home country.

7. What would you say to a student who is considering enrolling in the Global Flex Program?

I’d say it’s the best option for any student. It’s the best of online and offline experiences. Especially for someone like me who was working and could have a smooth transition. Can not ask for anything better!
