Meet Michael Sedberry, one of our outstanding transfer students in our online bachelor’s of Business Administration program who is excited to share his transfer student story.
1. Can you describe your experience as a transfer student coming into the SDSU Global Campus program?
The SDSU Global Campus program has been an ideal fit for me. While working on my Associate’s degree, I was concerned about how I would pursue a bachelor’s given my full-time work schedule. The thought of commuting to campus and spending several hours in a classroom every day wasn’t feasible. This program offered exactly what I needed— the opportunity to earn a degree from a respected institution, all while maintaining the flexibility to study from home. It also allowed me to interact with fellow students, creating a balanced and supportive learning environment.
2. What is the most rewarding aspect of being a transfer student?
Starting at a community college provided me with the opportunity to make progress toward my degree while keeping costs low. This financial flexibility enabled me to carefully plan my transition to a four-year university and choose the right school without the pressure of financial constraints. By the time I transferred, I was able to seamlessly integrate into the new environment and hit the ground running.
3. What kind of support is offered to transfer students that differs from other students?
Although I can’t specifically compare the support offered to transfer students with that of others, my experience has been incredibly positive. As a transfer student, the support has been exceptional. I have access to a dedicated counselor, Jordan Ahmu, who is incredibly responsive—often available for an appointment within 24 hours, if not the same day. This consistent guidance has been crucial in helping me navigate my course schedule and ensuring I’m on the right track for graduation in August. Jordan has been instrumental in my success.
4. What does your plan look like after graduation?
At this stage in my career, pursuing my degree has brought a renewed sense of purpose. The up-to-date business cases and scenarios I’ve encountered have given me valuable insights and kept my skills current. Earning my bachelor’s degree has reignited my passion for lifelong learning, and I’m already considering the possibility of pursuing an MBA as my next step. The program has not only expanded my knowledge but also re-energized me for future educational goals.
5. Extra Side Note:
One of the biggest pleasant surprises at SDSU has been the “Immediate Access” program. The availability of high-quality textbooks at prices far below what I expected has been an incredible value. This aspect of the program has greatly exceeded my expectations in terms of affordability and access to materials.
